Welcome to the phrodia FAQ! Find answers to the most common questions about our platform.
Getting Started
How do I create an account?
- Download the phrodia app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android)
- Tap "Create Account" on the welcome screen
- Sign in with Google or Apple
- Complete the onboarding steps:
- Grant location permission (optional but recommended)
- Enable notifications (optional)
- Accept privacy consent
- Enter your profile information (name, birthday, gender)
- You receive 25 free credits as a signup bonus!
- You're ready to start!
Note: You must be at least 18 years old to use phrodia. Account creation is currently only available on mobile apps, not on web.
How does phrodia work?
phrodia is a photo rating platform where you can:
- Upload your photos and get honest ratings from people worldwide
- Rate others' photos on a scale of 1-10 and earn credits
- Choose a category for your upload (Dating, Fitness, Business, Social, or Custom)
- See detailed statistics about who rates you (age, gender, location on a world map)
- Share your photo via link or QR code for external ratings
- Chat with raters to get more feedback
- Use credits to upload more photos or start conversations

How do I upload my first photo?
- Tap the "Upload" tab (bottom navigation)
- Choose a photo from your gallery or take a new one
- Crop the photo to focus on your face
- Select a category (Dating, Fitness, Business, Social, or Custom — min. 1, max. 5)
- Optionally add a question for raters (e.g., "Which hairstyle suits me better?")
- Set targeting options:
- Who can see it (gender, age groups)
- Geographic targeting (Global, By Region, By Country, or Exclude Local)
- Maximum number of ratings (costs credits)
- Review the credit cost
- Tap "Upload"
Cost: 7 credits per rating slot (e.g., 10 ratings = 70 credits)
Photo limit: Unlimited — upload as many photos as you like.
Can I edit my profile?
Yes! You can change your display name and profile photo at any time:
- Go to Profile tab
- Tap your name or profile picture
- Make your changes and save
Credits & Wallet
What are Credits?
Credits are the currency used in phrodia. You need credits to upload photos, request ratings, and start chat conversations.
Two types:
- Earned Credits: Free credits earned by rating others' photos
- Purchased Credits: Paid credits bought via in-app purchase
How do I earn Credits?
Rate other users' photos:
- Base reward: 1 credit per rating
- Comment bonus: +2 extra credits for writing a comment
- Daily limit: 50 earned credits per day
- Signup bonus: 25 credits when you create your account
How to rate:
- Go to the "Rate" tab
- View a photo
- Give a rating (1-10)
- Optionally add a comment (+2 bonus credits)
- Submit → Earn credits instantly!
Why do Earned Credits expire after 48 hours?
Design philosophy: Encourage active participation
- Earned credits expire after 48 hours to promote regular app usage
- Purchased credits never expire (until used or account deletion)
Track expiry: Check your wallet in the Profile tab
What's the difference between Earned and Purchased Credits?

How do I buy Credits?
- Go to Profile tab → Tap on your credit balance
- Or: Upload screen → "Buy Credits" button
- Choose a package:
- 200 Credits — €4.99
- 500 Credits — €8.99
- 1,000 Credits — €14.99
- Complete purchase via App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android)
- Credits appear in your wallet (usually instant, up to 1 hour delay)
Payment: Handled by Apple/Google, not by phrodia. Prices may vary by country.
My purchased Credits didn't appear. What do I do?
Wait: Up to 1 hour (RevenueCat webhook delay)
Check:
- Profile → Credit balance
- Ensure you completed the purchase (not cancelled)
- Check your App Store/Play Store purchase history

Photo Upload & Targeting
What categories can I choose when uploading?
Every photo upload requires at least one category (up to 5):
- Dating — Get feedback on your dating profile photos
- Fitness — Show off your fitness progress
- Business — Professional headshots and LinkedIn photos
- Social — General social media photos
- Custom — Define your own category
Can I add a question for raters?
Yes! When uploading, you can attach an optional question that raters will see alongside your photo. This helps you get more specific feedback.
Examples:
- "Which hairstyle suits me better?"
- "Is this a good photo for my dating profile?"
- "Professional enough for LinkedIn?"
What targeting options are available?
Control who can see and rate your photos:
Demographic Targeting
- Gender: Male, Female, or both
- Age Groups: 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45+ (select any combination)
Geographic Targeting
- Global: Everyone worldwide can rate your photo
- By Region: Target a specific region (Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Oceania)
- By Country: Target a specific country
- Exclude Local: Everyone can rate except people in your city (for privacy)
Only users matching ALL your criteria can see and rate your photo.
Example: "Only women aged 25-34 in Europe" → Very targeted audience
Can I get more ratings on an existing photo?
Yes! Use the "Reserve More Ratings" feature:
- Go to "My Photos" tab
- Tap on the photo
- Tap "Reserve More Ratings"
- Choose how many additional ratings you want
- Pay the credit cost (7 credits per additional rating slot)
Your photo will be shown to more raters until the new target is reached.
Photo Ratings
How does the rating system work?
Scale: 1-10
- 1-3: Below average
- 4-6: Average
- 7-9: Above average
- 10: Exceptional
Honest feedback: Ratings should reflect your genuine opinion of the photo.
How many ratings will I receive?
You choose! When uploading, set the number of ratings you want.
Cost: 7 credits per rating slot
Example: Requesting 10 ratings = 70 credits
You can always reserve more ratings later if you want additional feedback.
What happens after I reach the maximum ratings?
Your photo is closed (no longer shown to raters).
You can:
- View all ratings and statistics
- Reserve more ratings (costs credits)
- Delete the photo
- Upload a new one
Can I delete my photos?
Yes! Anytime:
- Go to "My Photos" tab
- Tap on the photo you want to delete
- Tap "Manage Photo" → "Delete Photo"
- Confirm
Effect:
- Photo removed from app and storage
- Ratings deleted
- Credits used for upload are not refunded
Share & External Ratings
What are External Ratings?
External Ratings let people rate your photo without needing a phrodia account. You share a link, QR code, or 5-digit code, and anyone can give you an anonymous rating.
How do I share my photo for external ratings?
- Go to "My Photos" tab
- Tap on the photo you want to share
- Tap the Share button
- Choose to copy the link, display a QR code, or share the 5-digit code
- Send the link, QR code, or code to friends, post it on social media, etc.
How do external ratings work for the rater?
When someone opens your share link:
- They see your photo and can rate it (1-10)
- They can optionally leave a comment
- No account or app download required
- Ratings are anonymous
Do external ratings cost credits?
External ratings do not use your rating slots. They are a separate, free way to collect feedback from people outside the app.
Chat & Messaging
How do chat conversations work?
After someone rates your photo, you can start a chat with them.
How it works:
- You see a rater's feedback on your photo
- Tap "Chat" to start a conversation
- The chat request costs 7 credits
- The recipient receives a notification and can accept or decline
- If they accept, the conversation is open with no message limit
How much does chatting cost?
- Starting a chat: 7 credits (paid by the person who initiates)
- Accepting a chat: The recipient earns credits when they accept a chat request
- Messages: Once a chat is open, there is no message limit and no additional cost
Why does it cost credits to start a chat?
This prevents spam and ensures that conversations are meaningful. The credit cost discourages mass messaging while rewarding users who receive chat requests.
Photo Insights & Statistics
How do I see who rated my photos?
- Go to "My Photos" tab
- Tap on a photo
- Tap "Insights" or "View Ratings"
You can see:
- Individual ratings (1-10)
- Comments from raters
- Demographics: Age group and gender of each rater
- Average rating by demographic group
What is the Map view?
The Map shows a world map with markers indicating where your raters are located. This gives you a visual overview of your photo's global reach.
How to access:
- Go to "My Photos" tab
- Tap on a photo
- Switch to the "Map" tab in the insights view
Note: Rater locations are shown at city level only, never exact addresses.
What is the Badge system?
phrodia awards badges based on your activity level. The more you participate, the higher your badge rank:

Privacy & Safety
Who can see my photos?
You control this!
When uploading, set:
- Allowed Genders: Male, Female (select any combination)
- Allowed Age Groups: 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45+ (select any)
- Geographic Targeting: Global, By Region, By Country, or Exclude Local
Only users matching ALL criteria can see and rate your photo.
How do I report inappropriate content?
In-App:
- Tap the photo or comment you want to report
- Tap "Report" button
- Select category (NSFW, Hate Speech, Spam, etc.)
- Optionally add details
- Submit

How do I change my privacy settings?
Ad & Privacy Settings:
- Profile → Settings → "Ad & Privacy Settings"
- Toggle personalized ads on/off
- Manage consent choices
Location:
- Device Settings → phrodia → Location
- Or: In-app → Deny location when prompted
How do I report a security issue?

We take security seriously and will respond within 24 hours.
Account Management
I forgot my password. What do I do?
phrodia uses passwordless authentication!
You sign in via:
- Google (OAuth)
- Apple (Sign in with Apple)
No password needed!
If you can't access your Google/Apple account:
Contact their support to recover access.
Can I use phrodia on multiple devices?
Yes! Your account syncs across devices.
Requirements:
- Sign in with the same Google/Apple account
- Data syncs in real-time
How do I delete my account?
- Go to Profile → Settings (gear icon)
- Scroll to "Danger Zone"
- Tap "Delete Account"
- Confirm deletion
Timeframe: Immediate (automated)
Cannot be undone!
Technical Issues
The app crashes or freezes. What should I do?
- Force close the app and restart
- Update to the latest version (App Store/Play Store)
- Clear cache:
- iOS: Offload app in Settings → Reinstall
- Android: Settings → Apps → phrodia → Clear Cache
- Reinstall the app (last resort — you won't lose data)

Push notifications don't work
Check:
- Notifications enabled in device settings
- Internet connection active
- App is up to date
iOS: Settings → phrodia → Notifications → Allow Notifications
Android: Settings → Apps → phrodia → Notifications → Enabled
phrodia uses two notification channels:
- Vote Notifications: When someone rates your photo
- Chat Messages: When someone sends you a message or chat request
You can enable or disable each channel independently in the app settings.

Location permission denied — what now?
If you denied location:
- Some features won't work (geographic targeting by region/country)
- You can still use the app with global targeting
To enable later:
iOS:
- Settings → Privacy → Location Services → phrodia
- Select "While Using the App"
Android:
- Settings → Apps → phrodia → Permissions → Location
- Select "Allow only while using the app"
I can't upload a photo
Common reasons:
- Insufficient credits (need at least 7 credits for 1 rating slot)
- Photo too large (max 300 KB — app compresses automatically)
- Inappropriate content (see Community Guidelines)
Solution:
- Earn credits by rating others' photos (1 credit per rating, +2 with comment)
- Buy a credit package
In-app purchases don't work
iOS:
- Settings → Your Name → Media & Purchases
- Sign out and sign back in
- Retry purchase
Android:
- Play Store → Menu → Account
- Ensure payment method is valid
- Retry purchase
Still failing?

App says "No photos available to rate"
Reasons:
- Not enough users in your area
- You've rated all available photos (check back later)
- Daily rating limit reached (50 ratings/day)
Solution:
- Enable location permission for better matching
- Try again later — new photos are uploaded regularly
My photo isn't getting ratings
Check:
- Is your photo approved? (Profile → My Photos → Status)
- Is targeting too narrow? (try expanding to "Global")
- Is your photo high quality? (clear, well-lit face)
Moderation: Photos are reviewed before being shown to users. This can take a few hours.
Payments & Refunds
How do in-app purchases work?
All payments are processed by:
- iOS: Apple App Store
- Android: Google Play Store
Available credit packages:

How do I request a refund?
Contact Apple or Google (not phrodia):

- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Find "phrodia" purchase
- Select "Report a Problem"
Android:
- Play Store → Account → Purchase history
- Find "phrodia" purchase
- Tap "Request a refund"
Refund Policy:
- Apple/Google decide on refunds (we cannot override)
- Purchased credits: No refund after use
Are there any hidden fees?
No! Prices shown in the app are final and include VAT/taxes (where applicable).
Content Moderation
What content is NOT allowed?
See our Community Guidelines for full details.
Quick summary:
- Nudity or sexual content
- Minors (users must be 18+ to use the app)
- Hate speech or discrimination
- Violence or illegal content
- Spam or advertising
Consequence: Content removal, warning, suspension, or permanent ban
How quickly are reports reviewed?
Target: 24-48 hours for most reports
Urgent cases (illegal content, minors): Reviewed immediately and escalated to authorities if needed.
What happens if I violate the rules?
Three-strike system:
- First violation: Warning + content removal
- Second violation: 7-day suspension
- Third violation: Permanent ban
Severe violations (NSFW, minors, violence): Immediate permanent ban

Can I submit feedback in my language?
Yes! Email info@phrodia.com in any language.
We primarily respond in English and German, but we can use translation tools for other languages.
Tips & Best Practices
How to get better ratings
- High-quality photos: Clear, well-lit, sharp
- Show your face: Front-facing portraits work best
- Natural expressions: Smile or neutral (no weird faces)
- Good lighting: Natural light or well-lit indoor
- Simple background: Not distracting
- Appropriate clothing: Clean, presentable
- Choose the right category: Match your photo to the right context (Dating, Fitness, etc.)
- Add a question: Specific questions lead to more helpful feedback
How to write helpful comments
- Be specific: "Great smile!" instead of just "Nice"
- Be constructive: Helpful feedback, not criticism
- Be kind: Treat others as you want to be treated
- Be genuine: Honest but respectful
- Bonus: Writing a comment earns you +2 extra credits!
Don't: Body shame, make sexual comments, spam, or demand contact info.
How to earn credits quickly
- Rate photos consistently — 1 credit per rating
- Always add a comment — +2 bonus credits each time
- That's up to 3 credits per rating (150 credits per day at the 50-rating limit)
